Center of Track Rod
This Center of Track Rod was created by a surveyor wanted a faster and more accuurate way of getting the center line of R.R. tracks. It's sole purpose is to find the centerline of a Rail Road Track (R.R.T.) and the mean elevation of the top of rail. Which is hard to do when you are trying to set a pole point on the top of a smooth steel track and then have to get the other side as well. To get an accurate location of the R.R.T. both rails should be considered and the shots should be in the same exact location in relation to the rails. The function of this Center of Track Rod assures this, very quickly and very accurately, the center mark on the rod will be within 1mm+/-. This is accomplished by placing the Center of Track Rod between the rails and inserting the pole point into the tapered center hole on top of the Rod. The pole will now be exactly half way between the rails and the tip of the pole will be at the mean elevation of the top of rail. Now with one shot you can gain accuracy and get it quickly, while NOT being down on your knees with a pocket tape trying to find the center point of the track and elevation, no fun. In addition you can get the elevation of each rail, just insert the pole into the tapered hole on either end of the rod. It is made of clear hardwood maple and is 63" long and 36" collapsed and weights 4lbs.
